Bronze Ambassadors

Our bronze ambassadors, Ben and Lucy visited Ponds' Forge International Pool in Sheffield on Friday with Norton College. It was a great success and a fantastic experience for all who attended. The children were a credit to the school and officials at the venue commented on their excellent behaviour and good manners.
"It was fantastic to be able to watch the Paralympic swimmer Ellie Simmonds compete in the individual medley".  Also there to sign autographs and have photos taken was Olympic medallist Rebecca Adlington.

Florence Pegrum Cross Country

Florence represented us at the  North Yorks Cross Country competition at Catterick. This is what she had to say -

"On the 28th March, the last day of Easter term, I went to Catterick Race Course to do a 1500 metre run. This is an annual cross country competition for all primary schools across North Yorkshire competing by year and gender.  At the starting line I’m sure it wasn’t just me who had awful butterflies!  There were about 40 girls and it was a hard, hard race, including a hill at the start. In the last 200 metres it was me and two more girls fighting for victory. In the end, though, my battle was for second place and I had to dig deep to sprint past the girl ahead of me. When we reached the end I realised I had got second, I was so chuffed  but I could hardly walk!"

Spring 2013

This term we are hoping to take part in the following events:-

Gymnastics Workshop at Norton College - Wed 27th Feb 13. See report below.

Hockey Tournament at Norton College - Thursday 7th March 13.

Football Tournament at Norton Primary - Friday 15th March 13.  WE WON!!! CONGRATULATIONS LEAVENING!

Dance Festival at Norton College - Thursday 21st March 13

Attendance of these events is very much dependent on the willingness of our parents/grandparents to provide transport to and from the events as often paying for transport for a small number of children is just not feasible. We have a marvellous bunch of parents at Leavening and we rarely have to cancel events because we can't get there.

Our sports writers will keep you updated on this page as we take part in each of the above events.

Jack Pile Tournament 2013

"Leavening netball team were a big success in the Jack Pile Tournament with an amazing result of joint second with Amotherby. It was an excellent achievement for the netball team; we were really proud of ourselves after the match. We were really happy with the result, it was really fun and we all had a laugh. Well done to St Marys who won the tournament".

I Curtoys and L Ilsley.

"We were very confident after are 1st place last year - The football team was made of girls and boys. The first match gave us an easy 4-0 win and boosted our confidence.

Are second and third match was disappointing with a draw against St. Mary’s and a loss against Langton (mostly because of the ref) but we just got on with it. Next was another easy win against Sand Hutton it was 4-0. Next was Amotherby, our biggest challenge yet, even know one of our best players was out. But we surprisingly pulled out a 0-0 draw mostly because of our star keeper Lewis. Everyone played amazingly and well done to St Marys who won the tournament."

 Wet but happy!

Wet, muddy and tired! Tournament winners St Marys with hosts Leavening.

Norton C P School Football Tournament

Winners 2013We set out on the 15thof March 2013 to win our first match was against a very keen Rillington side. Lewis decided to smack the ball past the keeper followed by Ben scoring three, making it 4-0.

Cameron placed it in the bottom corner to make a terrific 5-0 start.

Then we beat any team that stood in our way.

We played a tough match against St Marys - a free kick from Monty that deflected off a player and into the goal gave us the lead. Followed by a goal from Ben. A cross from Monty gave Ben the chance to score and he did not disappoint. The match that mattered the most showed our true talent. The results were  - St Marys 3rd, Norton 2nd and the winners were Leavening!

 Gymnastics Workshop - 27th Feb

"On the 27th February 8 people from school went to Norton College. The people were: Polly in Yr 5, Lewis  in Yr 5, Oliver  in Yr 6, Lily  in Yr 4, Ella  in Yr 2, Cate  in Yr 2, Eve  in Yr 1 and Holly in Yr 1.  It wasn’t a competitive sport so the children could enjoy it without having to think about winning.

It was an opportunity for us to take part in gymnastics and learn some more skills we didn’t have before.  The older children did vaulting and floor exercises. The younger ones did floor exercises and bar balances.

We would like to say a big thank you to Tammie Saunders and Julie Worthington for the transport they provided or we could not go to this wonderful event.

Many thanks to them and hopefully we will have this opportunity again.

We enjoyed it a lot."

P Worthington.

Basketball Festival - 25th Jan

We played at Malton Sports Centre - transport and support kindly provided by Mrs Hughes and Mr & Mrs Bagshaw.

Report provided by G Hughes, YR6.

"Firstly we played Malton Primary School and we scored 3 baskets but we still lost.

Then we played Amotherby Primary School and lost that game but it was really fun.

After that we played Rillington Primary School and we scored 4 baskets but they scored 5;

lastly we played Langton Primary school and lost that game, too!

Overall it was really fun and entertaining. In the Norton Cluster Langton won and in the Malton Cluster

Malton won and those 2 teams are going to the finals. It was a lot of fun and we all enjoyed ourselves."

G Hughes.
