The Governing Body at Leavening School as of September 2017 is as follows:

Headteacher -   Mrs Sian Mitchell

I have been headteacher at Leavening since September 2012. This was my first headship and I was adamant that I wanted to start this vocation in a small school where I had a flexible teaching role so I could lead by example and instil a culture of 'teaching with passion' throughout the school! Every day brings a new challenge that I embrace and I feel very fortunate to be headteacher of such a thriving school. My spare time is spent running around after my toddler who was born in 2015.

Mrs Rachel Ray is headteacher from September 17 - June 18

Joint Vice Chair of Governors - Dr Neil Audsley

I was Chair of Governors for 12 years and a member of the Governing Body for even longer. My two teenage sons attended Leavening School.

Staff Governor -Miss Jenny Evely

I've been at Leavening School since 2015, teaching the children in Acorns. I moved from a much larger school in Leeds where I taught in both the EYFS and KS1 classes. I think Leavening is a really special place that thrives on its own uniqueness and I hope that by becoming part of the Governing Body I can help it to become an even more fantastic place for our pupils.

Co opted Governor - Mr Peter Whittell

A retired national newspaper journalist, living in Birdsall.  Two of his grandchildren were educated at Leavening school. A founder member of Leavening Community Sport, the body set up by governors to create the school MUGA.

Co opted Governor - Mrs Lindsay Harrison

I have been a governor for two and a half years.  At present, I sit on the finance committee.  I currently work in adult education teaching English to GCSE. 30 years ago my own children enjoyed the benefits of a small village school education.  That school was threatened with closure but the parents fought to keep it open and I am keen to see Leavening school continue to thrive.

Parent Governor - Mrs Anna Rose-Adams

I am Anna Rose-Adams, a mother of three children at the school. I am the link governor for both Early Years and Special Educational needs. I joined the governing body in June 2016.

Joint Vice Chair of Governors - Mrs Rebecca England

I'm a Mum of 4 children and have been a Parent Governor for 2 years and I'm also Maths Link Governor. I'm a qualified Primary School Teacher.

Chair of Governors - Mr  Alan Ockenden

With two children at Leavening school I joined the Governing Body in Feb 2016 as a parent governor, I currently sit on the Finance and Health & Safety sub committees as well as being the Safeguarding link governor.

My family and I moved to North Yorkshire in late 2014, one of the main influencing factors for choosing Leavening was this school. I am therefore very keen to see this school continue to provide a safe and nurturing environment so pupils can flourish and reach their full potential.

I have spent most of my working life within the forestry/arboricultural industry with the majority with the Forestry Commission in operational roles, as a result I have a clear understanding of Health & Safety issues especially as I manage the day to day Health & Safety for a geographically dispersed team of 14 people.

Parent Governor - Mr James Robinson

I have been a parent governor for 2 years and have 3 children at the school.
I live in Norton. At work I am a barrister based in York

LA Governor - Mrs Carolyn Childs

In 2013 I moved to Leavening from Kent. I love living in the village and am delighted to have been invited to join the governing board of Leavening Primary School.

My career is in education.  I taught in mainstream and in special schools, and as a pre-school home-visiting teacher for children with significant needs.

I held local authority adviser posts for Special Educational Needs, for Excellence in Primary Schools and also for Curriculum Development.  I was a primary school headteacher.

Latterly I have worked as an independent education consultant.  I have supported private clients and schools, as well as many local authorities, schools and centres around the country, engaged in a wide variety of development work. I have worked closely with many school governors, headteachers and senior leaders, as well as with school support staff and parents. I am a nationally accredited School Improvement Adviser and an Ofsted Inspector for Schools.

I have two children, who are both married, and two grandchildren; all of whom indefatigably keep me on my toes and ensure my education continues!
